How does she do it?

I have to credit Demi Moore for snagging one of the cutest leading men in Hollywood - Ashton Kutcher. And she did it while all being over the age of 40.

Does this inspire me to date younger guys, most likely not. If you're going to date young, it really does have to be out've love because it's certainly not for their bus pass.

So you guys can imagine how Demi really hit the jackpot when Ashton came along who had his own money and his own shit. It makes me wonder if she would've went for him if he was a hapless nobody actor?

At any rate, you go Demi! I need to take a page out've your book and snag me a 20 something too!

Maya Arulpragasam

Hey Peeps! Here's one of new favorite music idols - M.I.A, I've been hearing her in the gay clubs for a while and finally followed up on her. She's good, her personality is exactly what she looks like, spunky, political, colorful, exotic, and so on.

M.I.A. is also known as Maya Arulpragasam, she was born in England and is of Sri Linkan decent. Below is the first song she ever wrote, "Galang" , that made her a superstar. Well really, it was her other song, "Paper Planes" , from the movie soundtrack, "Slumdog Millionaire" , that put her over the top. What's really funny is, she didn't even want to be a musician, her chosen art is filmmaking.

Awesome, I'd love to see one of her films someday!

Week 5

Today's weigh was a good surprise. I dropped 2lbs this week so I'm back on track. I know what did me in this week, I've been doing some latenight snacking at Taco Bell. And then plus yesterday I really let it go with a Mexican Torta sandwich and a large Horchata. And I still lost weight. I'm looking forward to this upcoming week!

The will power of putting down the junk food is a lot harder than I thought. On a brighter niote, I did manage to run 15 times this month. I have a feeling this summer is going to blow by fast so I need to get up on it!

I don't mean to push myself but I'm 36 years old and having been putting off this dramatic weight loss challenge for a while. So for me, I gotta be ultra motivated! And I do appreciate everyone whose been following me on this journey!

Today's weigh in: 257

Eat Your Heart Out Bitches!

Mmmmm.. I just made this tonight, I didn't use all the cheeses like Paula Dean said below so I stuck with chedder cheese only and you can use heavy milk cream instead of sour cream if you want to, so go for it, this one is really easy to make!

Initially, I meant to make my old friend Leandra Galindo Mac & Cheese back in the Summer of 2003 but that didn't turn out so great. Back then I just boiled the Macaroni and put in a block of Velvetta cheese in the pan. Needless to say I must've been watching the cartoon cooking channel because the cheese never melted and ended up sticking to the bottom of the pan.

So here I am 7 years later to say,"eat your heart out bitches, my Mac & Cheese is the bomb" ! I finally went online and looked up how to make Mac & Cheese Paula Dean style. And it turned out good, thanks Paula! So I have one thing to say to Leandra and the rest of the world - You Better Work!

Feeling emotional

Dang, there are just some songs out there that fill the void in my heart. I know I'm not the only one out there who feels devastated from life's little twist and turns. So when the going gets tough, you hopefully hear a beautiful song that takes all your pain away. Here's the one that did it for me back in the day and it still does.

My old friend Kiona introduced me to this song when she use to cruise me, Gina, Mary, Brandt, Brandon, and Tootse around Albuquerque in her car back in the mid 90's. Those really were my best times in New Mexico.

Thank you Brooks & Dunn!

I'm getting married!

It's official, I'm getting married to tennis star Novak Djokovic and I'm going to change my name to Countess Charla Djokovic. We're registered at Crate & Barrel! xoxo

Week 4

My weigh in for the past week was 259. I shot up 3lbs. I'm not surprised, even though I managed to jog 4 times this past week, I was still snacking pretty heavy. In my mind, I thought all that excercise would balance out my intake. I really took my physical activities this past week for granted. Not this week, I hurt my leg doing a show at the Came Rock Casino so now it's going to take a couple days for me to recuperate. So that means I'll really have to be watching what I eat.

Not giving up! I'm in it to win it!

xoxo

Update

Just got back from Sante Fe, NM. The Tesuque Pueblo brought me in for a community awareness event at the Camel Rock Casino on there rez. All & all, I had a great time.

After the show, we went to back to Sante Fe to hang out at Milagro's. That was a really fun place. I got to hang out with some really chic Natives. The club was really posh and had a nice vibe to it, not pretentious and very friendly.

I just pulled into my house & my ma had hot spaghetti waiting for me on the stove. I must've done something right because I can't remember the last time she cooked.

Alright, I had a great weekend and got to hang out with a lot of really nice people.

Thanks Gabriel

Below is a brief excerpt from Dr. Gabriel Estrada upcoming article:

Two-Spirit comedian Charlie Ballard (Sac and Fox and Anishinaabe) presents a series of jokes in 2009 that both critique whiteness and playing Indian in his “Gay Native American” sketch posted on his webpage, a critique Rose does not make in Can’t Stop the Music. When Charlie opens with self-identification as an “American Indian”, he follows with “I know most of you can’t tell since I’m not wearing my casino shirt.” He is jokingly reconfiguring Indian identity as lucrative and contemporary, but refuses to wear the shirt that would mark him iconically as such. To present a non-iconic image is a choice Rose never makes in the film as he wears a headdress at almost all times. “Most guys like to date me just because I’m American Indian,” Ballard continues, “So what the hell does that make me, a fetish? What the hell am I supposed to say to that? ‘Hey do you want a lap dance?’” Ballard puts two fingers up behind his head like feathers and makes a whooping sound with his other hand on his mouth while unenthusiastically wiggling his bottom. “Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo!” he screams in Indian falsetto featured in Classic Westerns. Ballard makes fun of the very kind of gay kitchy fetishism that Rose displays as a gay Indian go-go dancer and bartender in one of the scenes in Can’t Stop the Music. As a go-go dancer and as a Village People performer, Rose plays Indian to capitalize on gay white fetishization of Indian male sexuality. Ballard says about gay dating “I worry about dating white men, not because of getting HIV but because of getting small pox. White boys are cute but don’t cough on me.” Ballard revisits the past injustice of genocide, but brings it to a comedic level by poking fun at non-Natives who might believe that his immune system has not changed since first contact with whites. “I’m the fashion consultant in my Indian tribe,” he concludes, “You might hear me say something like ‘Oh, girl, I know you didn’t bring that outfit on the Trail of Tears.’” Again, he pokes fun at the idea that Native Americans of today should have to dress as they did during the 1830s, a racist belief that many non-Native Americans in the audience might believe or have been taught. Ballard is clearly identifying as gay and Native American in order to broadly criticize white stereotypes and fetishization of gay Native Americans. The critique of whiteness is what Ballard and other Native comedians like Charlie Hill bring to an audience that eludes Rose as he plays The Indian.

Notes

Hey guys, a Professor from Long Beach State wants to include me in an article he's writing, that's really cool, here's his note and my response:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Charlie,
I hope you are well. I'm still amazed by that dancer we saw in West Hollywood and laughing at your jokes you'd told earlier that evening. Anyways, I'm beginning to write a little about your gay Native act for a publication, saying how it is critical of gay white racism. Is that cool? (Actually I'm contrasting your work to an 80's film with Village People and The Indian, Felipe Rose that tried to be funny but couldn't quite get there most of the time. I might "drag" Cher's Half Breed Blues into the conversation as well in terms of "playing Indian" in performace.) Can I identify you by nation(s), if so which one(s)?
Take care,
Gabriel
--------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Gabriel, that's fine.
You're welcome to interpret my act however you'd like, different people get different points of view from it. Most of my signature jokes about being Gay & Native American are based on the American Indian experience and stereotypes. When I first started writing my act, I began incorporating my gay experiences with the Native American genre to try and relate to other people. I was sure there were other queer minorites that could identify with what it feels be treated like a fetish/minstrel in our mainstream society. And not just by them, but we also also do it to each other as well.

I'd love to read your article when it's done, please send me a link or copy when it's finished, all the best!
xoxo

Week 3

Alright ya'll, this was a hard week for me. I slipped atleast 3 times this week. But in those 3 times I still managed to lose weight. I lost 3 lbs this week. I think what kept me under were my physical activities. Even though I did manage to drop the ball this past week, it wasn't a total loss. Most of this week I ate well, snacked on fruits, had my usual salads, and I was also watching my portion intake. My work week didn't help my cause either because it left me tired this weekend. I'm still going to go do my excercise activity today and be a trooper! It's time to suck it up and go do what's best for me.

This week's weigh in:

Good Day

There's nothing like jamming out to my youtube Sade playlist @ 3am in the morning. This was a long fuckin day today. On the brightside, I did manage to make some money in tips, on the downside I have to wake up in another 6 hours to re-apply my eyebrows and go back to work. I'm tempted to not do them and but then again I really do need people to tip me.

I'm home late again because like a dumb ass I decided to stay in SF and catch the late bus back to Oakland. I went and saw Patrice O'Neal at Cobb's Comedy Club. Patrice is actually one of my favorite working comics. He is a breath of fresh air. I've heard people say that about me and now I know what they mean.

Today started off really good. I got a great phone call from a potential booker so we'll see how that plays out. I'll release the details as they come in.

It was actually today's horoscope in the SF Examiner that inspired this blog, it said - I'm able to personally overcome anything that life's throws at me, within reason. That really struck a cord because of how the entertainment business has been throwing curve balls at me lately. You know, sometimes these horoscopes can be so kryptic, I wish they were more literal like today's a good day to fuck without a condom or you should really think about getting a career in fast food because you're fuckin stupid.

Anways, it's getting late, nite.

Gorgeous Day

It is such a gorgeous day outside in the Bay Area. I can't wait to go running later today.
My dieting is going good for the most part but I'm still having problems with the little splurges here and there. Right now Taco Bell is having this super 2$ deal for a taco, drink, and a bag of dorito's. Are you fucking kidding me, who can pass that up?
I never understood why women like to bargin shop but it became clear to me when I saw the words, "Value meal and 2$" , together in the same sentence.
I didn't do too bad today. I know I have to go running to balance out today's intake.
What else? I was hanging out at the Deluxe lastnight and had a good seminar from Kori Ono and Big Al Gonzales on how to put together my DVD taping later this August. I'm so excited about that! I've really did put this project on hold and didn't want to attack until I was completely ready. I've never felt more than ready to do until now. The show will be a mix a new material and old stuff I need to get on tape.

Alright ya'll! Have a great day!

Week 2

Holy Shit I lost 4lbs this week! I did manage to slip here and there this week but nothing too major. Lastnight we went and saw Iron Man 2 and instead of having my usual Big Ass Slurpee, Nachos, and Popcorn, I just had water and maybe a couple handfuls of popcorn. We usually finish off the whole bag but this time there was 3/4 still left. Amazing.

I feel so proud of myself! See what happens when you really apply yourself to a goal. It works and I'm not even put off by the 22 weeks left on my diet challenge, at this rate, I'll be posing for Marie Claire in no time. *smiles*

Alright, I'm going to still keep what I'm doing and I would encourage the all of you to do the same!

Today's Weigh in: 259

Mother's Day Poem

Happy Mother's Day to all my lady facebook friends w/ family! Here's a poem from me to ya'll:

Beautiful tree, weathered by many storms, sunrises, Me-Gwetch for your fruit, nectar, honey dew, known by many names, redwood, oak, grandma willow, for if it weren't for you, my roots would grow out of my ears, and I would never know the many blessings of your womb.

Yamo's

Just got off work and shit are my dogs tired. I went up to the Mission District tonight thinking I was going to catch a comedy show & hang out, no such luck, it was cancelled.
Seeing as how I've been good on my diet, I decided to stop by a local Taqueria and get a quesadilla, that line was too long so I broke out've there. I also saw another local comedian getting his grub on. I decided it wasn't worth the wait so I decided to head over to the Castro until I saw this little shoebox Chinese restaurant called Yamo's. And I am here to tell you that it was Yummo! Those little Chinese ladies behind the stoves are just cute. It was like a watching a live cartoon of these old Chinese woman butchering the English language & cook in a really sweet way.
I was in the mood for some coconut juice and I thought I was just getting get a can, when I looked up that little old chinese lady brought me the whole coconut. She chopped off the top, set in front of me & gave me a straw with a spoon. The spoon was for after I was doing drinking the coconut milk and ready to scrap the inside for coconut meat. It was delicious. I don't know why I've never had fresh coconut juice before, probably because I don't live on a desert island.
Anyways, if any of you guys are in the SF area, definitely stop by Yumo's on 18th/Mission, it's right in front of the 33 Stanyan bus stop on 18th.
Eat well everybody!

Where did all my readers go?

I went running again tonight. I know it's only been 5 days since I started my new diet but I can already feel myself getting lighter. It must be because I'm eating lighter food. Today I had a salad with no cheese and no sour cream. I got my munchie attack late this evening and cooled it down with some spicy seeds, banana's, and water. Not gonna lie, I did eat a leftover taco, only cause my ma brought it home a couple days ago and put it in the fridge, it was still good.

In other news my readership severly dropped these past couple of weeks. Good! I'm hoping you guys are doing something productive and meaningful with your lives, not that I don't want you guys reading blogs, I just don't want you guys to be consumed by it or anything else on the web.

After my run I went a did an open mic in SF. It actually turned out pretty fun considering the circumstances. By the time I got on, there was large loud Filipino crowd hovering at the bar. Those mutherfucker's were loud. I'm telling you guys, Filipino's are the new black people. So when it was my turn to go up, I did my new stuff and then put the focus on the crowd. That turned out to be really fun. I was like, "Where are all my Filipino's at" , "Daly City's in the House" , "Damn, there's hella Filipino's in here, what, did a DJ die or something" ?! In case some of you guys are wondering what those references were about, the Bay Area is divided up into ethnic ghetto's and the majority of Filipino's live in two large areas - Daly City in South San Francisco & Union City in the East Bay. And plus Filipino's are notorious for being DJ's. OMG, it was classic, not only did I shut them all up but I also managed to corral them upstairs to the dance area, which is where I think they were headed in the first place.

Alright ya'll, check back later to see if I succomb to cupcakes!

The Salad Alternative

How's everyone feeling this week! My day started off as expected. Of course I saw a lot more fatty foods to eat the same week I started my diet. I was like dang, why weren't those cheeseburgers on sale last week when I wasn't dieting.

Today was good, I managed to eat some veggie black beans from work, no lard & no bacon, and a Big Greek Salad. The Big Greek Salad was good and different. For the next couple of months I'm sure I'll be touring different continents and countries to see who can make a great salad. My Greek salad wasn't all leaves and feta, I had them throw on some lamb/beef for protein. The only thing I didn't eat off the Greek Salad were the red beets, those were just too sour for me. And coincidently, Greece was bailed out by EU *European Union* this week. If anyone hasn't been following the news, Greece is heavily in debt and had to borrow huge sums of money so there country would't go into financial ruin. In exchange for taking the 110 Billion dollar EU loan, Greece is gonig to have to make severe budget cuts and tax the shit out out've their GDP * Gross Domestic Products* I hope they start with their red beets.

Alright, how's everyone else's diet starting?
